Your mental health matters just as much as your physical health. Whether you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, low mood, a difficult life change, or simply not feeling like yourself, reaching out is a positive step, and you don’t have to manage it alone. At Canungra Town Medical Centre, we provide compassionate, confidential mental health support for individuals and families across the Scenic Rim.

How We Can Support You

We provide support for a range of mental health and emotional concerns, including:

  • Anxiety, stress, and worry
  • Low mood and depression
  • Major life changes and transitions
  • Grief and loss
  • Coping with chronic illness
  • Support following difficult or traumatic experiences
  • Child and adolescent mental health
  • Support for families

Support may involve talking with your GP, developing a plan, and, where helpful, working with a psychologist or other mental health professional.

Mental Health Treatment Plans

If you’re experiencing a mental health concern, your GP can talk with you about a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This is a plan your GP prepares with you that assesses your needs and sets out how to support you. For eligible patients, it also provides access to a number of Medicare-subsidised sessions with a psychologist or other mental health professional each calendar year.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in, a conversation with your GP is a good first step, and they can guide you from there.

How to Get Started

Getting support is simpler than many people expect:

Book an appointment with your GP

.We recommend a longer appointment so there's enough time to talk.

Make a plan together.

This may include a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral to a psychologist, ongoing GP support, or other resources.

Talk through what's going on

Your GP will listen and help you understand your options.

Ongoing support.

Mental health care often works best over time, with reviews to see how you're going.

Telehealth and Flexible Access

We understand that getting to appointments isn’t always easy, and that talking about mental health can feel daunting. Telehealth (phone or video) options may be available for eligible existing patients, which can make support more accessible. Our reception team can talk you through the options.

Mental Health Care for Rural and Regional Communities

Accessing mental health support can be harder in rural and regional areas, and we’re glad to be able to provide it locally. Patients across Canungra, Tamborine Mountain, Beechmont, Wonglepong, and the wider Scenic Rim can access compassionate support close to home.

Most skin checks take around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how many spots need a closer look and whether you have a history of skin concerns.

A standard skin check is painless. The dermatoscope used to examine spots only rests gently against the skin. If a biopsy or removal is needed, local anaesthetic is used to numb the area.

This depends on your individual risk factors, such as skin type, history of sun exposure, and personal or family history of skin cancer. Your doctor will recommend how often you should return.

Book an appointment to have it checked. Changes in size, shape, colour, or a spot that itches, bleeds, or won’t heal are worth having looked at promptly.

Looking after your skin starts with a simple check. Book a skin check at our Canungra clinic today.
